Last month were the infamous Oscars, where Hollywood’s glamour strut down the red carpet in hope of receiving the most prestigious industry award. As we all know, it is also a highlight on the fashion calendar as each actress tries to out shine each other.
I find myself glued to the television or in this case, the American Club’s screens at their annual Oscars champagne breakfast. For me this year, two main themes stood out; the color red as I’d previously mentioned in February’s edition and lots of sparkle & sequins.
There was so much glitz on the dresses that it was absolutely breathtaking. Standouts for me were Cameron Diaz in the loveliest Oscar de la Renta gold glittery gown that combined with her blonde hair is simply Hollywood! Interestingly 60’s has been the theme this year as both Nicole Ritchie and Sarah Jessica Parker had the most amazing vintage 60’s dresses.
At the American Association we had our very own red carpet at the George Washington ball – also with a 60’s theme! The dresses were diverse and beautiful. Standouts included the gracious Lady Kyra who wore a ’67 Oleg Cassini (famously designed for Jackie Kennedy) ensemble that she originally purchased in Las Vegas. She looked fabulous and boy, what a worthwhile investment! Heidi Kingman-Bakker turned heads with NY based designer Mina and her ‘rocket’ shoes by Prada. Another guest wore a bright fuchsia dress with rosette design that made a screaming impact.
Overall it was a fabulous night and I will be booking my place on the couch for next year’s Oscars.
