Joanne has kindly given us her top make up tips to keep you looking fabulous over the summer months.
-
Warm up an eyelash curler by rubbing the part you apply to the lashes back and forth between your fingers so that it works more like a curling iron.
-
Heavy eyelashes on a mature woman make her look like an ageing theatre star. Use lighter lashes, unless of course, you’re going for really high drama!
-
You can line your lips in one of two places: Just inside the lip line to soften fuller lips: Right on the border of the lip for normal to smaller lips. I never recommend lining outside the border of the lip; otherwise it can tend to look somewhat like a clown mouth.
-
With shimmer highlight, a little bit goes a very long way for reflecting the light. So, be careful not to spill excess powder on other parts of your cheeks or face.
-
Using a warmer eye shadow for the base is a good idea if you also intend to use darker colors to create a “ smoky” look. The warmer color helps soften the look overall by blending the line between the darker and lighter sections of the eye.
-
When searching for a cream highlighter for your cheekbones, look for shimmery champagne colors, if you’re dark-skinned, the highlighter should have a warm, copper tone to it. Use a light touch during application. You want the look of minimal makeup.
-
Put some contouring underneath the tip of the nose, to give the illusion of shortening the nose.
-
Always approach blush in a very soft way, layering little by little. You can always add more, but it’s very hard to remove without washing your face.
-
The trick with smoky eyes like blush is to start slow and layer up. You can always add more if necessary.
-
Bushy brows are great for smoky eyes because they give the brows a softer, airier feel by breaking up the density of the brow, which matches the softness of the smoky eye.
-
Shimmer highlight creates light and bone structure. You can “move” the cheekbone based on where you put your shimmer highlighter because shifting where the lights reflects on the face gives the illusion of moving bones.
-
When you flush, you’re blushing from underneath. So you want to mimic this natural blush when putting on your makeup.
-
If you don’t have a large eyelid, you can reshape the eye with color. Simply placing your eye shadow just above the crease of your eye creates the illusion of a larger lid.
-
TIME SAVING TIP — You can always spot-conceal by putting concealer only in those places where it is really needed: under the eyes, around the sides of the nostrils, and over any blemishes. Just make sure you blend these places really well. Adding a quick dusting of translucent powder on top will help with this.
-
MOST IMPORTANT TIP – Ensure your makeup is in vogue with your skin colour. Wearing the incorrect colours on your face can make you appear older and show any skin imperfections.
